Build your accounting career across multiple organisations and markets

BMG Partners Incorporated is looking for an experienced, hands-on Accountant to join our East Africa Hub in Nairobi.

This is not a transactional bookkeeping role.

We are looking for an accountant who understands the full finance cycle - from transaction processing and reconciliations to management accounts, statutory compliance, cash-flow management, audit preparation and client reporting.

You will take ownership of assigned client accounts and work with organisations operating in Kenya and across East Africa, giving you exposure to a diverse and fast-moving finance environment.

BMG Partners is a SAICA-registered professional services practice providing accounting, tax, payroll and financial management solutions to international non-profit organisations, multi-country NGOs and commercial entities across Africa.

What you will be responsible for

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

·  Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and client financial packs within agreed reporting deadlines.

·  Drive month-end close activities and work towards Working Day 3 reporting.

·  Perform detailed balance-sheet reconciliations, including receivables, payables, accruals and prepayments.

·  Analyse actual results against budgets and explain material variances.

·  Maintain accurate, clean and audit-ready general ledgers.

·  Ensure transactions are correctly allocated to cost centres, projects and donor/grant structures where applicable.

Kenya Tax & Statutory Compliance

You will take responsibility for ensuring assigned clients remain compliant with Kenya statutory requirements, including:

·  VAT

·  PAYE

·  Withholding Tax / WHVAT

·  NSSF

·  SHIF

·  Housing Levy

·  Tax Compliance Certificates

·  Support for corporate income-tax submissions and KRA audits

You should therefore be comfortable working independently on the KRA iTax platform and managing statutory deadlines.

Banking, Treasury & Cash Flow

·  Manage day-to-day activity across client KES and USD bank accounts.

·  Complete weekly and month-end bank reconciliations.

·  Investigate and clear reconciling items promptly.

·  Prepare weekly cash-flow forecasts.

·  Monitor liquidity to ensure payroll, statutory and operational obligations are funded on time.

·  Prepare electronic payment batches for review and authorisation.

·  Manage petty cash and advance reconciliations where applicable.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

·  Review and process supplier invoices accurately.

·  Verify supporting documentation before payments are processed.

·  Reconcile supplier accounts and statements.

·  Manage customer invoicing.

·  Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding balances.

·  Maintain accurate AP and AR ledgers.

Audit & Financial Controls

·  Prepare audit schedules and Prepared-by-Client (PBC) files.

·  Maintain complete supporting documentation for transactions.

·  Support annual external audits.

·  Apply segregation-of-duties and approval controls.

·  Maintain organised digital financial records.

·  Help ensure every client account remains audit-ready throughout the year, rather than preparing only when an audit begins.

Who we are looking for:

We want someone who can own the numbers, identify problems before they become bigger issues, and deliver high-quality work without requiring constant supervision.

Minimum requirements:

·  CPA(K) qualification or ACCA equivalent.

·  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.

·  Approximately 3-5 years of hands-on accounting experience.

·  Strong practical experience with KRA iTax and Kenyan statutory compliance.

·  Experience preparing management accounts and balance-sheet reconciliations.

·  Experience managing bank reconciliations and cash flow.

·  Experience working with KES and USD accounts would be advantageous.

·  Strong Excel skills.

·  Experience with cloud accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage, Odoo, AIQ or similar systems.

· Strong written and spoken English

The type of Accountant we want:

Accurate. You take pride in reconciliations that balance and ledgers that can withstand scrutiny.

Accountable. When an account is assigned to you, you take ownership of it.

Deadline-driven. Month-end and statutory deadlines are commitments, not suggestions.

Analytical. You do not simply process transactions - you question unusual movements and investigate variances.

Commercially aware. You understand that good accounting helps management make better decisions.

Client-focused. You communicate professionally and can explain financial matters clearly.

Ethical. You understand the responsibility that comes with handling client funds, payroll information and confidential financial records.

Why this role may be right for you:

This opportunity would suit an accountant who wants to move beyond a narrow accounting role and gain broader exposure to:

Management Accounting  •  Tax  •  Treasury  •  Payroll-Related Statutory Compliance  •  Audit  •  Client Accounting  •  Multi-Country Finance  •  Financial Controls

You will work with different organisations and financial environments rather than being limited to one set of company accounts.

If you are an accountant who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and delivering accurate financial information, we would like to hear from you.
